Horror movie spoof.
My Rating: 2 1/2 stars. Probably worth a rental. See it in the thearter only if you are a big fan of this type of movie.
Review:
This is a movie out of the same mold as "The Naked Gun" and "Hot Shots." It of course makes no attempt to be serious, as well it shouldn't. So really there are two questions here: a) Do you like this style of move? b) Does this movie do this style justice.
Well, I like this kind of movie. They're fun, and don't make you think too hard. Of course, with these movies it helps to be familiar with the movies they spoof. The "Scream" movies are essential here, but the movie also borrows from quite a few others. I have yet to see the "Scream" movies, but still I was able to enjoy the movie.
As compared to the classics of the spoof genre, I'd say this movie was a bit below average. Although there's a lot of funny stuff, there's also a lot of attempts at humor that miss their mark. In particular, there must have been 100 jokes about sex and sexual organs (including showing one or two of those organs along the way). If I recall correctly, two of those were mildly humorous. The rest were complete wastes, that I thought brought a damper on the whole movie. Of course, If you are offended/bothered by sexual humor, avoid this movie
So if you're deciding on whether you want to see this movie, ask yourself what you thought of "The Naked Gun," and go down a notch or two, and you have an idea of whether this movie is worth it for you. Also, I don't thin there's any urgency to see this movie in the theaters. It'll translate well to the small screen.
